A California native, and child of the lost and least of these, Heidi is no stranger to the brokenness in our world. Despite the pain that came with growing up homeless, Heidi was introduced to communities that needed the love of the Father; this experience gave her the a heart and conviction to love the lost and least of these as the Father loved her.
Shortly after getting married to her high school sweetheart, Heidi and her husband Rob were deployed to Germany. The Father seeing their hearts, brought them to a couple who launched their journey into the Navigators marriage bible study. Soon (as with anyone who meets the Father), Heidi developed a hunger to know and love Christ. Still, she had remnants of brokenness due to childhood violence and sexual abuse that she needed help working through. In 1992, Heidi met with a Navigators counselor who helped her walk through her past.
Inspired by her Navs counselor and the work they did together, Heidi decided to follow her footsteps into counseling. As a first generation college graduate, she received her Masters in Counseling. Even so, she understood that true healing could only come from the Great Counselor, and began her journey into the world of Inner-Healing. The Father led her into Military ministry for 17 years, collegiate for 6 years, and church discipleship for 5 years.
Heidi has been leading the first Colorado Springs homeless ministry for the past three years; this is where she feels called. Heidi shares her passion for the homeless ministry, saying, “Of course, I have always had one foot in the homeless world my entire journey because of the ongoing struggle with my family. I currently work with multiple homeless organizations, and homeless people. The Lord showed me handouts help but relationships heal.”
During her time in the homeless ministry, she has put together a book of the over 200 people from the homeless community the Lord has brought into her life. These range from direct community members she has met to family members of friends who are struggling with their lost and broken loved ones. The heartfelt book includes pictures, names, names of children, and prayer requests.
In her day-to-day work life, Heidi spends about 20 hours/week in Inner Healing sessions, 10 hours building relationships in the homeless community, and 10 hours doing administrative work. She has also begun to identify, mentor, and train up-and-coming counselors to work alongside her in the Father’s call to minister to the lost and least of these.
In addition to her work in Inner Healing, Heidi worships the Lord through creating art. She travels and shares her testimony with the homelessness. Heidi succeeds her dad who passed away from homelessness in 2021.
