Every Navigator’s passion is to help others “to know Christ, make Him known, and help others do the same™.” Through small-group Bible studies and Life-to-Life™ discipleship, we come alongside people and teach them to be Christ’s followers as they study and apply the Word of God to chart their lives. Then we train them to pass what they have learned on to others.
Through our Military ministry, we work alongside U.S. military staff and chaplains to help meet the spiritual needs of service personnel and their families. We serve those who serve our country.
Our Calling
In 2009, while still serving in the Army, God spoke to Jorge through 1 Chronicles 28:10 saying, "Be careful now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong and do it." He felt it was clear that God was calling him to build up His spiritual house. What was unclear, was what that would look like...
Little did he know, that that initial calling was the first step in God's plan to move his heart toward full time ministry. Jorge joined the Navigators as staff-in-training in Orlando, FL in 2016. Two years later we were invited to join the Navigators military mission to head up the ministry on Hunter Army Airfield. After months of prayerful consideration, the Lord confirmed that direction, and we moved to Savannah in January of 2019. Only a few weeks after arriving, the Lord encouraged our hearts through 1 Kings 6:12 "Concerning this house that you are building, if you will walk in my statutes and obey my rules and keep all my commandments and walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father."
Well, the word that he spoke to David was this: "He shall build a house for my name…” 2 Samual 7:13.
So through three separate passages God has confirmed his calling on our lives. He has called us to build up his house. This is not a physical building, but instead it’s what the apostle Peter describes in 1 Peter 2:5, “you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood.” People are God’s temple, the house in which He dwells. And it’s people that we’re working to build up as a spiritual house, and we believed and trusted God to provide us with both the resources and people needed to do what He called us to, just as He provided Solomon all the people and resources needed for the building of the physical temple.
By September of 2021 the Lord had provided enough financial support for Jorge to transition to full time staff. About a year later, we also had a team of disciples who shared our passion “to know Christ, make Him known, and help others do the same™.” The Lord also led us to partner with Bull Street Baptist Church in Savannah. They have not only provided a church to call home, where we are encouraged through fellowship and biblical teaching, but who also meet a very important need in military ministry.
A large percentage of those in the military only serve a single 3-5 year contract, and then transition back to civilian life. That transition is more challenging than most people would think. Being partnered with a local church allows us to model to Soldiers healthy church membership, and provides a seamless transition from discipleship in our Nav community, to discipleship in the local church. We have already had multiple Soldiers choose to stay in the area after leaving the military because they desire to stay plugged into the community where they have a sense of belonging, and where they are experiencing spiritual growth.
We are so grateful to God for all the ways He's providing, and for the amazing ways in which we are seeing Him build up His house, for His glory!
